The suitability of the adapter can be estimated by calculating the torque of the assembly using the following formula:

When using a live unit, precise alignment of the shaft is not necessary and the propeller shafting can be mounted at different angles, in the optimum position in relation to the motor. Rubber pads in the thrust bearing effectively dampen vibrations from the propeller shaft, while reducing resonance from the shaft assembly to the boat hull. The hub unit also protects the gearbox from axial loads. The thrust bearing of the power unit is fixed to the boat hull by means of a securely mounted mounting plate/flange (not supplied with the power unit), the propeller shaft is fixed to the thrust bearing by means of a compression fitting, a friction clamping sleeve. The power take-off unit is supplied with an adapter flange, selected according to the marine gear, to mount the joint to the marine gear The power take-off unit is supplied as a complete package including: - the thrust bearing unit - the constant velocity joint - the adapter flange for the marine gear - the rubber kit for fitting to the flange Remember to select the additional options for the diameter of the propeller shaft and the appropriate adapter flange according to the output flange of the marine gear. The constant velocity joint is the same for all standard P30R models. Python-Drive constant velocity joints are also available on request with a specially sized joint shaft, allowing the joint to be fitted in the appropriate position to suit the boat's layout and engine position.
